Iron ore transhipment operation

Whyalla, Australia

Case study

  • Using its bow and stern thrusters, and without the assistance of tugs, a CSL transhipment shuttle vessel (TSV) loaded with iron ore berthed alongside a Capesize vessel anchored offshore.
  • The TSV discharged the iron ore using its gravity-fed self-unloading system and ship-loading boom.
  • Once the cargo transfer was completed, the TSV returned to the port to re-load and perform the operation again until the Capesize vessel was fully loaded.
