Magnetite concentrate transhipment operation

Cape Preston, Western Australia

Case study

  • A CSL transhipment shuttle vessel (TSV) loaded magnetite concentrate at Cape Preston, Western Australia, before shuttling the cargo to an ocean-going vessel (OGV) anchored offshore.
  • The TSV positioned itself alongside the OGV without tug assistance, using its bow and stern thrusters.
  • Equipped with gravity-fed self-unloading system and ship-loader, the TSV discharged the cargo directly into the OGV’s cargo holds at rates of up to 4,000 tonnes per hour.
