CSL and its CSL International Pool partners recently marked an important milestone in their fleet renewal program with the naming of MV CSL Kuleana, the second CSL vessel in a series of five methanol-ready, Kamsarmax-based ocean self-unloaders.
The ceremony, held on March 13, highlights the steady progress of the CSL International Pool newbuild program, which will replace the Pool’s oldest vessels while setting a new standard for performance, efficiency, and environmental readiness.
“As we renew our Pool fleet, we are building ships designed to deliver reliable, efficient, and sustainable service for decades to come,” said Louis Martel, CSL’s President and CEO.
Purpose-built for specialized trades, these vessels are designed to maximize cargo efficiency, operate safely across global markets, and deliver long-term value to customers. MV CSL Kuleana reflects this approach, combining technical performance with a broader commitment to responsible, future-ready shipping.
The vessel was named by her godmother, Joanne Muther-Jones. Kuleana was chosen through a global naming contest open to CSL employees worldwide. In Hawaiian, it means a deep sense of responsibility and care for people, the land, and natural resources – values that align with CSL’s commitment to safe and sustainable operations.
The CSL International Pool newbuild program continues to move forward, delivering the next generation of ocean self-unloaders built for long-term service, operational excellence, and a more sustainable future.
