2016

The CSL Group is pleased to announce that CSL President and CEO, Rod Jones was selected as co-Personality of the Year by the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) during the organization’s annual conference last week.

Rod Jones is a role model for everyone working in our industry. He has led CSL with success over the past nine years and has been a great mentor for both men and women. He has also paved the way for equal opportunity in shipping – beginning with CSL, which employs a growing number of female directors, managers and seafarers. This is highly exceptional in the shipping world and we can only hope many other maritime companies will follow his lead.

Karin Orsel, President of WISTA International

Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in the Bahamas, Rod Jones has devoted his 40-year professional career to the shipping industry. He joined Canada Steamship Lines in 1985 and became President and CEO of The CSL Group in 2008. Since 2014, he has also served as Chair of the Standard Club. He is a respected figure in the global shipping world, and well-known for his solid ethics and values around diversity, safety and the environment.

Rod stands out as an inclusive and approachable leader. The Canadian chapter of WISTA is very proud to have put forward his name as our very first nomination and we are delighted that women throughout the shipping world have recognized his important contribution to bringing about meaningful change in our industry.

Andrea Sterling, President of WISTA Canada

Every year, the WISTA Personality of the Year award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the shipping industry, who embrace and champion diversity, inclusivity and equity, and whose passion and commitment for the industry and its people are sources of inspiration.

I am truly honoured to receive this award and to share it with Captain Analia Soledad Viggiano of Argentina. Organizations like WISTA play an important role in changing the makeup and mindset of what has historically been a male dominated industry. I strongly believe that embracing diversity in all its forms is not is not only the right thing to do, it’s good for business.
