Iron ore loading and discharge operations
Superior, Wisconsin to Québec City, Québec
Case study
- A CSL self-unloading Laker loaded iron ore at Superior, Wisconsin, and travelled through the St. Lawrence Seaway system and across the Great Lakes to discharge the cargo at Quebec City.
- The 34,490 DWT vessel is specifically designed to operate in the unique Seaway lock system and carry the maximum cargo capacity.
- The voyage involved navigating through three different canal systems and a total of 20 locks: the five Soo Locks, the Welland Canal’s eight locks and the seven locks of the Montreal to Lake Ontario passage.
