CSL St-Laurent Opens 65th Navigation Season in the Welland Canal

Mar 22

2023

CSL St-Laurent had the honour of being the first ship to transit the Welland Canal today, earning Captain Jim Ryan the traditional Top Hat with Chief Engineer Stoyan Vlaev by his side.

As we start the new navigation season, we’re excited to announce the continuation of our B100 biofuel program on eight ships, including CSL St-Laurent.

Since 2019, our vessels have accumulated over 51,000 running hours on biodiesel, making our biofuel trials the world’s longest and most significant. Results to date show an 80% lifecycle reduction in CO2 emissions compared with MGO, and a drop of 110,000 MT in carbon from our Great Lakes operations.

Here’s to a safe, sustainable and successful 65th navigation season to all!
